Bernadette is relieved for Howard, but he uses every excuse he can think of not to go including going to see his prospective father-in-law who will be losing his wedding reception deposit. Bernadette’s father tells Howard that he did not think that he was the right man for his little girl until he heard about him going into space. Also he mentioned not to worry about the deposit and that Bernadette can always find someone else if he doesn’t come back.
Meanwhile, Penny offers to take her "beta test" relationship with Leonard to the next level and takes him to bed, but it ends badly when Leonard proposes to Penny in the middle of sex.
